Blue light & our ingredients to protect the skin!

OUR PROPOSAL FOR BLUE LIGHT PROTECTION

During these past months, due to Covid19, great part of the world’s population has been forced to work from home depending on wifi, computers, tablets, smartphones, etc. While we were concerned about our immune health and taking Vitamin C supplements, no one remembered to protect their skin from Blue Light.

For those of you who are not familiar with the concept, High Energy Visible (HEV) light, better known as Blue Light, is high frequency/ energy emitting light with a short wavelength (400 – 500 nm). Blue light radiation penetrates deeply in the dermis and a long-term exposure causes reactive oxygen species (ROS) overproduction, DNA damage, delayed human skin barrier recovery, cytotoxicity, reduction of cells proliferation, etc.

As just mentioned, Blue Light penetrates deep into the skin contributing to short and long term skin aging induced by oxidative stress due to increased level of free radicals and as it generates carbonylated proteins, proteins losing their functionality (responsible for yellowish, brownish color). Other negative consequences are skin hyper-pigmentation and dark spots, less production of collagen or skin barrier impaired as the keratinocytes are damaged, increasing the number of sunburn cells (UVB adverse effect). On top of all this, blue light also has a negative impact on human health as it damages the eye (retina, macular degeneration) and it suppresses the production of melatonin which prevents us from sleeping tight.

Now that the world is starting to open up, we hear lots of marketing and communication campaigns remembering us to protect our skin against UV radiation but still very few are concerned about protecting their skin all year long before staring in front of a computer for 8 straight hours.

From Disproquima we can offer you different actives and filters with proven efficacy against Blue Light damage that can be included in your beauty products:

PEPHA®-AGE

A sustainable scenedesmus rubescens extract with unique composition that stimulates skin’s own defence against blue light, UVA and UVB, reduces blue light induced skin darkening and age spot, also reduces oxidative stress and carbonylated proteins and restores and boosts collagen production (especially collagen III youth collagen).

αG RUTIN PS-S

Antioxidants and UVB absorption properties of αG RUTIN PS-S makes it an effective ingredient in cellular protection minimizing photo-induced damage (UV Radiation, Blue Light and Polymorphous light eruption (PLE) and premature aging). “In vitro” studies of αG RUTIN PS-S demonstrate its efficacy in Blue Light absorption (400-500nm) at concentrations 0,05% and 0,025%, its efficacy in photo induced toxicity inhibition at concentrations 0.02%- 0.05% and on patients with PLE it demonstrates the efficacy of αG RUTIN PS-S protecting against UV exposition effects (sun allergy) at a concentrations of 0,25%.

OLEA-HT™10

OLEA- HT™10 contains Hydroxytyrosol, the main active compound of olive fruit and Tyrosoltwo strong antioxidant molecules that help skin to counteract the signs of blue light exposure. OLEA- HT™10 is certified ECOCERT and COSMOS and offers a natural alternative to protect our skin.

NIACINAMIDE PC

Niacinamide PC (Vitamin B3) is a special cosmetic proprietary grade supplied by DSM, which has a guaranteed low level of residual nicotinic acid to address any concerns about unpleasant skin sensations. Its main benefits include UV- and blue-light-stressed skin care (skin tone, damage caused by light), blemish care (blemish-free, shine-free, refined skin appearance) and enhanced functionality of the skin barrier.

PARSOL® Max

PARSOL® MAX is a photo stable broad spectrum UV filter that delivers outstanding performance by breaking through the boundaries of UVB and UVA to continue into the blue light spectrum. Available as a ready-to-use dispersion which can be simply added into the water phase or at the end of the emulsion process, PARSOL® Max can be easily combined with all UV filters.

PARSOL® TX

PARSOL® TX is an inorganic UVB filter providing a very good SPF performance as well as a significant contribution to UVA and Blue Light protection. It consists of a 100% rutile-type titanium dioxide (TiO2) core with a very tight double coating of silica and dimethicone. It is fully compliant with all global regulations. Furthermore, the product has been specifically developed to be used together with our PARSOL® 1789.  Finally, it also offers high transparency in formulations, and is compatible with acrylate thickeners.

PARSOL® ZX

Parsol® ZX is a zinc oxide grade with a particle size ensuring SPF and UVA best performance and blue light protection with optimized sensory. It can be used in a wide range of products from sun care to skin care and make-up.

Numerous studies support all the negative consequences Blue Light has in our skin and health but in today’s digital world, where on average in 2019 the world’s population spent 6 hours and 42 minutes online, it seems impossible to avoid blue light exposure. Therefore, from Disproquima we encourage you to create blue light protection formulations that help us protect our skin all year long.
